However the beach is punctuated with a series of sand banks that deliver waves of various lengths, shapes and sizes allowing surfers to choose their ideal spot. Some peaks get close to perfect at various peaks along the beach, depending on sand movement and swell quality. Southeast winds are offshore so when its on make the most of it as a occasionally a sand bank will form that delivers perfect waves, otherwise most peaks are fun. Make sure to check the conditions first and be prepared for the cold water and ice cream headaches!

Noordhoek Wines

Cape Point Vineyards' Noordhoek Estate

The Vineyards were planted from 1997 and has been producing award winning wines since it's inaugural vintage in 2000.

Currently wines available include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon and a Noble Late Harvest. Not to be missed are the Scarborough wines also produced by Cape Point Vineyards. Our wines can be purchased from the following local outlets: Noordhoek Farm Village, Shorties and Picardi Rebel.

Results from Bordeaux's latest Challenge Internationl du Vin reveal that Cape Point Vineyards has been awarded its second international GOLD accolade within 12 months. This time the award winning wine is the 2001 Cape Point Vineyards Chardonnay. The grapes for this wine came from the Noordhoek Estate, just one of Cape Point Vineyard's three vineyard locations in the deep south of the Cape Peninsula. Hand-picked and sorted at dawn, the grapes travelled 5km down the road to the Fish Hoek cellar where they were whole bunch pressed and fermented in a melange of imported French oak barrels. The wine, a distinctively "Cape Point terroir" wine is characterised by its vanilla and lime wafts on the nose with a compelling lime cordial enticing the palate. The Challenge International du Vin has been running for over 25 years and strictly adheres to the rules of "International Code of Oenological Practice in Vines & Wines".

The Cape Point Vineyards Chardonnay was one of five GOLD medals awarded to South Africa in this international competition which boasts a tasting panel of world class sommeliers, negociants and other industry connoisseurs with formal training in the art of tasting wine.

This gold medal follows in the footsteps of Cape Point Vineyard's 2001 Sauvignon Blanc, which achieved Gold in London's International Wine & Spirit Competition announced in June 2002.
